​Project 

 

To share all the stages of my project and display my work I chose to use a website. My work is targeted to teenagers and young adults, as they are the age group most often online a website was the most accessible platform to show my work on. Displaying on a website also gives me creative control over how my work is viewed and the opportunity to curate an atmosphere and aesthetic that matches that of my photography to reinforce the emotional impact.  

 

When choosing what to use to create my website I could have used Squarespace yet it has less design freedom than Wix and is more template restricted. I chose Wix as it is very easy to navigate and as there is no coding required it allowed me to focus on the overall design and presentation of the website. I also like the drag and drop interface as it allowed me to experiment with my layout until it felt right.  

 

Although, there is often a technical inconsistency as different devices screens display my work in varying formats, meaning my images may not appear exactly as intended. Overall, I felt that showcasing my project on a website was the most practical choice as it means my work can reach a wider range of viewers. 

 

 

 

Final Product 

 

I chose to present my final product in the form of a handmade photo book because it allows for a more intimate and personal experience between the viewer and the work. Displaying my photography in this form allowed me to guide the narrative through sequencing and layout as you turn each page. Certain books often hold sentimental value to people such as old photo albums, making it appropriate for my work to be displayed like this as I aimed to imitate that sense of permanence and personal connection.  

 

Rather than a photo book, I debated presenting my final photos either in a gallery or online. The concept of a gallery would be perfect for my photographs yet it would be too costly to get them printed as there are quite a few. When researching how my target audience would prefer to view a photographic series like this there was a majority vote for a gallery or photo book presentation, reinforcing my choice of showing it in a physical form to enhance the audiences connection.  

 

Unlike a website my photo book cannot be easily accessed my many people and therefore limiting my audience, hence why I decided to display my final outcome and photo book on my projects website. The decision to create a photo book feels right for the tone of my project as it allows the viewer to engage with the product similarly as they would to personal objects. 

 

 

Showcase 

 

By showcasing my photography in a physical photo book and digital website it allows me to engage with both a physical and digital audience. My photo book offers physical and sentimental experience as the physicality of book encourages a slower and more reface experience for the viewer. Contrastingly the website presenting my overall project is to be accessed by a wider audience, showing the process and context behind my project.  

 

I was able to showcase both my website and photo book to a few family members once finished to apply their feedback to my evaluation. If I wanted my work to reach a larger audience I could submit it to a photography competition such like one on Photocrowd-https://www.photocrowd.com.
