Throughout the past twelve units of my course I have learnt what pathways it offers for the future, how the media industry works, and also experienced it first hand from visiting Q Radio. Whilst progressing through I have also been able to build upon and greatly improve my existing skills such as teamwork, handling cameras and other equipment, and using different editing software. By partaking in projects using video and audio it has given me more of an understanding of those mediums and has also encouraged me to create pieces out of my comfort zone that incorporate them with photography.

I have been interested in photography from a young age as my mother has been using a film camera for as long as I can remember. Due to being surrounded by photography it has urged me to capture moments or objects I find interesting as I have always been fascinated that you can make any moment in time stand still just through the click of a few buttons. As I have grown I feel as though I have quite a unique eye for photography, I have tried to apply that skill to my college projects and will continue to do so in the future. I have chosen photography as my discipline for my final major project because it is my strength, and I feel that I can show my creativity through it easier than any other medium. I have also chose my discipline based on the fact that I would like to progress to university to study photography.

 

For my final major project, I would like to create a series of photographs either displayed physically or online including a maximum of twelve images. I aim for the photographs to provoke emotion within the viewer such as nostalgia, anxiety or transformation and I may also use a model for some of my work. The target audience I want to aim for is people who have an interest in photography between of ages 15-30 years old. I do not intend in hiring out any equipment for this project as I have the resources required at home, if I incorporate a model I will also request if a friend or family member would be willing to. 

 

I aim to carry out extensive research in the planning stages of this project to acquire further knowledge that will help influence and develop my photography. I will more than likely be creative with my editing, utilising Lightroom and Photoshop to elevate the images. Over the next twelve weeks I will create a strict timetable and plan for my final major project detailing what I should be completing at each key stage and what equipment I will require to do so. I will also have to plan what equipment is necessary for each stage so I can complete parts of my project efficiently. Throughout my FMP I will ensure that I stay on track with my project whilst also allowing myself room for creativity and adaptability. I will present my work in a physical form such as an exhibition because I feel that it will engage the audience more so than a digital website. I also aim to submit my work to local photography competitions or to Creative Visions NI, an online platform that showcases and promotes young peoples work within creative media in Northern Ireland. Submitting my work to a competition such as ones carried out by the Belfast Photo Imagining Club, would be beneficial as it promotes my skills among other photographers within Belfast more so than if I were to only have an exhibition of my work within the college. Competitions | Join the Challenge — BELFAST PHOTO IMAGING CLUB

​During my project I will continuously evaluate my work using a journal, this will help me to see what I should improve on to better my project. By using this method I can keep myself on track and record any decisions or changes I make to my project so that when it comes to my final evaluation it is easier to reflect on what I've done. Throughout the project I will stick to my timetable as much as possible yet still allow myself to be open to altering aspects as it is part of the process. While I am in the classroom, I have the opportunity to discuss my work with peers and collect benefitting feedback to improve my project, I can also talk to my tutor about where I see my project heading and what I can do to achieve that. Alongside this, if I feel that I could use more specific feedback I can create a survey for other students in the college to complete as they are my target audience.
